[Death Metal Logo Exploration]
There are a number of brands I follow that utilize a grungy, death-metal–inspired style, but recently an unlikely brand decided to experiment with it. In Texas, the primary grocery store for most people is a local chain called H-E-B—a quick Google search will show you exactly what kind of brand it is. The brand ha
a reputation for being clean and trustworthy. Because of this, I surprising to see them collaborate with a freelance artist to release a death-metal–inspired H-E-B merch drop.
By the time I learned about the collaboration, it had sold out within minutes—and the merch was absolutely stellar. I really appreciate when a brand is willing to take risks. Even though the risk wasn’t particularly high—considering people don’t go to grocery stores to stay up to date with modern fashion trends—I still admire when a brand experiments simply for the hell of it.
Since then, I’ve been actively learning and experimenting with the style myself. This is only my third attempt at a death-metal logo, with the previous two being client work, but I can already see improvement and thoroughly enjoy the process. Designing death-metal logos allows me to focus less on perfection and opens me up to more free-flowing experimentation.
