Daisy Detailing was very much a summer-focused drop, with the name playing off “Daisy Dukes” and FoxyReine’s artwork of a gyaru-inspired character washing a car in short denim shorts. Even though black apparel typically performed better with the audience, this concept felt like it needed to be brighter and more playful, so I leaned into lighter colors and a sublimated dip-dye effect that gave the collection a different feel from previous Gamer Supps drops. The cutoff shirt came pretty naturally from the car wash theme since that was always my go-to when washing my own car during a hot Texas summer. The board shorts were where we really got to experiment. Ari and I were always looking for ways to make products more interactive, whether through glow-in-the-dark inks, reflective materials, or other details that gave them a “more than meets the eye” quality. Once we decided the shorts needed a mesh lining, I had the idea to print the character artwork on the mesh underneath. When dry, the shorts have a relatively simple design, but once the outer fabric gets wet, the artwork underneath is revealed. Seeing the idea actually work during the photoshoot was probably my favorite part of the project, and the shorts ended up being the first product from the drop to sell out. The air freshener also felt like a no-brainer for a car wash-themed collection. I originally wanted to experiment with a few different scents, but ultimately we played it safe and went with the classic Black Ice.
